AerioX

The Aerio X by PhotoShip One is an underslung camera mount for 500 & 600 class rc helicopters. The underslung concept allows you to quickly install it under your existing helicopter without any special modifications. Fly hardcore 3D one flight, and shoot some aerial video or photos the next flight. Installation of the Aerio X onto your 500/600 helicopter takes less than one minute.




The camera gimbal on the Aerio X is unique and no other commercially available camera mounts have the adjustability that the Aerio X has. For instance, the natural at rest roll angle of the camera gimbal is fully adjustable. Different cameras weigh different amounts which can cause the gimbal to swing slightly to one side or another if not adjustable. The Aerio X gimbal can slide left to right to compensate for various camera weights.

The servo used for the tilt axis is a fully programmable digital servo. Speed, travel, deadband, neutral position, and reverse can be programmed with an optional USB programmer. The servo directly drives the camera plate and is fully capable of handling any point and shoot type camera or small DSLR cameras. An option to add a second tilt servo for cameras heavier than 1.5lb is available.

The camera gimbal on the Aerio X can be slid fore/aft on two .375" tubes to assist in CG and to also allow for the use of wide angle lenses without getting the legs of the camera mount in the shot.


Another great feature unique to the Aerio X is a tunable suspension system. The Aerio X skid legs can pivot on the main spreader much like that of an A-Arm on a vehicle suspension. O-rings are used as "springs". The amount of softness of the suspension can be tuned via several mounting points for the O-rings to change the geometry as well as two levels of O-ring hardness (optional). The suspension will consume some of the energy in hard landings or botched autorotations. Mechanical safety stops keep the legs from spreading too far in the event of a severe landing or broken O-ring.

The Aerio X is attached to your helicopter with the supplied O-rings which slip through various slots in the top of the AerioX. Many sizes of landing gear are accommodated.

By the end of December 2009 we plan to offer an optional upgrade "ring" type camera gimbal with tilt and roll axis for the Aerio X.
