Gyro Selection Guide

Explorer
KS-2
  • 2.8" diameter x 4.8" long
  • Weighs 1.8 lbs.
  • Two brass wheels
  • 115 volts, 400Hz
  • Amp draw at startup 1.25 dropping to .8 at full running speed of 20,000 rpm
  • Panning rate: 10 degrees per second
  • Used for cameras or other optics weighing up to 2 pounds
  • First gyro invented to be used on binoculars
KS-2 with
Attached Inverter
  • ┬áSame specs as KS-2 above but add 1.75" to 2.8" dia. for overall height of 4.55" , the inverter adds less than 1/2 lb to the weight of the gyro
  • Perfect for remote control applications where you can tie into on-board 12 volt power source
Universal
KS-4
  • 2.8" diameter x 4.8" long (same as KS-2)
  • Same power specs as the KS-2
  • Weighs 2.4 lbs
  • Two tungsten wheels
  • Panning rate: 15 degrees per second
  • Will stabilize a camera or other hand held device weighing up to 4 pounds.
  • Standard for use with 35mm camera, but not suitable for over 400mm lens.
  • Improves recognition of binocular capability 2.4 times

Commander
KS-6
  • 3.4" diameter x 6" long
  • Weighs 3.6 lbs
  • Two brass wheels
  • 115 volts 400Hz
  • Starting amp draw 2.65 dropping to 1.5 at full running speed of 20,000 rpm
  • Panning rate: 20 degrees per second
  • Provides almost twice the stabilization of the KS-4.
  • For equipment weighing up to 6 lbs.
  • Troublesome vibrations are dampened out for medium format cameras or long lenses without the loss of handheld freedom
  • It is the gyro of choice for aerial photographers
Admiral
KS-8
  • 3.4" diameter x 6" long (same as KS-6)
  • Weighs 5.5 lbs
  • Two tungsten wheels
  • 115 volts 400Hz
  • Starting amp draw 2.6 dropping to 1.5 at full running speed of 20,000 rpm
  • Panning rate: 30 degrees per second
  • Provides twice the stabilization of the KS-6 with no increase in running power required.
  • For equipment weighing anywhere between 8 and 12 lbs.
Chief KS-12
  • Inverter dimensions:

13" long x 8 1/4" wide x 3 1/2" high and weighs 7 lbs

  • Gyro dimensions:

8 1/4" long x 4 5/8" wide x 7" high and weighs 17 lbs.

  • The inverter required to run the gyros can run two KS-12's at one time. We have 2 types available; an 11-16 VDC or a 22-32 VDC. One gyro draws 7-8 amps at the start and drops to around 3 amps at full running speed using the 22-32 VDC inverter. One gyro draws draws about 16 amps at start up and drops to around 7 amps using the 11-16 VDC inverter. If running 2 gyros, the amp draw is approximately double.
