Thanks to Earl Douglas for shooting these great photos of our 3X Pro HD Mast prototype. It’s shown in natural silver aluminum. Production version will be satin black anodized. This 3 axis gimbal is capable of handling up to 10lb of camera/lens with the ability to fully adjust the camera tray for proper balance. Even with a large and heavy telephoto lens.

We hope to have these ready for sale by end of July.

DJI S800 – Check your red ESC connector

We have found on our DJI S800 Spreading Wings hexacopter that the header pins inside the red ESC RC signal distribution connector were loosely soldered. We had a motor fail about 1 minute into running (just hovering, no damage thank goodness). Inspection revealed the Gnd and Signal pins on the #6 motor connector were never properly soldered into the PCB. You can see no evidence of solder on the pins. If you peel back the ‘Controller’ sticker on the PCB you should notice the pins slightly protruding with sufficient solder. If they are not then the connector pins may not be making the proper connection which is what was the case with ours.

For the time being we feel it is very important to do the following on all DJI S800. The good news it’s a simple test and fix.

With a pair of small needle nose slightly tug on each pin to see if it is loose. If you find even one loose pin we recommend removing the red connector and all the pins and replacing with new header pins and eliminate the red connector. Failure to check this would lead to a failed motor in flight if any of the pins should come loose.

See the pics below of what we found. Notice picture one shows the two pins that fell out from the connector.

Notice below there is no evidence of solder on the ends of the pins. These pins were never deep enough into PCB to make proper connection and bonding with solder.

What we used are 8 of these below. The ends extend all the way through the PCB and when soldered make a proper connection.

3X Pro v2 Landing Leg & Mounting Adapter Kit (S800 & CarbonCore)

We’re engineering a landing gear/mounting conversion kit for the 3X Pro v2 to allow it to be mounted to a DJI Spreading Wings S800 hexacopter or CarbonCore airframes. We utilized the factory S800 landing gear legs and supply the mounting brackets and hardware. CarbonCore frames will require that holes be drilled in the frame to mount the adapter.

Vibration isolation of the plate is handled by four Lord platemounts. We’ve found them to work quite well in our helicopter applications. The mounting plate has various slotted holes for a variety of possible mounting options for other payload packages and camera mounts as well.

This kit is a direct bolt on to 3X Pro v2 however the gimbal mounting adapter as mentioned above could likely be used with various other gimbals.
